2018 Kia Stinger lands EyesOn Design award

The recently-revealed 2018 Kia Stinger has been presented with the EyesOn Design award for production car design excellence this week at the Detroit motor show.

With other categories ranging from concept car, concept truck, production truck, innovative use of colour, graphics and materials, to interior design, and more, The EyesOn Design Awards honour the best production and concept vehicles making their worldwide auto show debut at the Detroit motor show.

"We have made a lot of great cars and I’m proud of all of them, but the Stinger is something special," said Peter Schreyer, chief design officer at Kia Motors.

Due in Australia around September this year, the Kia Stinger will be offered with two powertrains - a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot with around 190kW and 353Nm, and a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 developing an estimated 272kW and 510Nm - mated to a sole eight-speed automatic transmission.

When it arrives in local showrooms later this year, the Stinger will cash in on the demise of locally-made rear-wheel drive sedans, namely the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore, and will also take the fight to pricier European rivals.

The Stinger has already proven a hit with the CarAdvice team as well, named the unanimous 'hit' of the 2017 Detroit motor show.
