2017 Renault Trafic Crew Van added to local range

Added practicality comes from added seats: that's the story behind the newly added 2017 Renault Trafic Crew Van, which has arrived to complete the brand's medium van line-up.

The new Renault Trafic Crew Van is sold exclusively as a six-seat, long-wheelbase model, and it comes with dual glazed sliding rear doors as standard as well. It tops the range at $42,990 plus on-road costs, but it's currently listed on the company's site at $44,990 drive-away with standard paint (there are four standard colours and six premium colours).

The three rear seats all feature three-point lap/sash seatbelts, and two of them have lift-up seat bases for hidden storage (98 litres) – plus there are armrests between the chairs to stem awkward moments with workmates. There's an additional storage area on the plastic sleeve at the base of the seat, too, while the rear occupants are protected from the items in the storage area by a glazed permanent steel bulkhead.

That load space is smaller than the standard van, obviously, but with a cargo area that spans 1819 millimetres long, 1662mm wide (1268mm between the arches – enough for an Aussie pallet), and 1387mm high, there's four cubic metres of capacity back there. And with an 1118-kilogram payload, it's still plenty capable of coping with large loads.

The Trafic Crew Van comes with the brand's impressive 1.6-litre twin-turbo diesel engine with 103kW of power and 340Nm of torque, and sadly like all Trafic models, it's manual only.

The model comes with stability control, a rear-view camera (that displays in the rear-view mirror), and rear parking sensors, and there are dual front and front side airbags, but there's no airbag protection for those in the rear row.

Other equipment highlights include Bluetooth phone and audio streaming and 16-inch steel wheels. You can get 17s as part of an option pack, and the MediaNav 7.0-inch touchscreen system with navigation remains optional on this spec, too.

As with all Renault commercial vehicles, the Trafic Crew Van comes with a three-year/200,000 kilometre warranty, as well as three years' capped-price servicing and roadside assist.

Stay tuned for more. We're keen to get a drive in this new Renault Trafic Crew Van – who knows, we might even put it through its paces with our production team, who were the guardians of our recent long-term Trafic van. Read those reports here.
