The second-generation Traverse once again shares its platform with the latest GMC Acadia. While the GMC model has been downsized and can now only seat seven people, the Traverse still has space for eight within its confines.

With the latest Acadia sized to compete with the Toyota Kluger, Mazda CX-9 and Nissan Pathfinder, the Traverse remains a significantly bigger beast.

Measuring 5189mm long, 1996mm wide, 1795mm tall, and riding on 3071mm wheelbase, the Traverse is 272mm longer than Acadia. It's also 81mm wider, 119mm taller, and has a 213mm longer wheelbase.

With its increased dimensions, the Traverse can easily carry more stuff as well, with a rated cargo capacity of 651 litres with all seats in place, or 2789L with the second and third rows folded down. In comparison, the Acadia can only manage 362L and 2237L, respectively.

The Traverse is available with two engine choices: a 190kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, and a 227kW/351Nm naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6. While a nine-speed automatic is standard, all-wheel drive is only optional on some models.

That compares to the Acadia's 145kW/258Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder, and 231kW/373Nm 3.6-litre V6. Both of these engines are paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic, with front-wheel drive standard and all-wheel drive optional.

Top-spec versions of the Traverse are available with leather and suede interior, 20-inch alloy wheels, a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system, power folding third row seats, and sliding and tipping second row seats.

Other available features include an 8.0-inch MyLink infotainment touchscreen, 4G LTE internet connectivity, Wi-Fi hot spot, LED headlights, surround view cameras, lane keeping assistance, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
