2015-16 Mercedes-Benz GLE, GLS recalled for airbag fix:: 2600 vehicles affected

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall notice for 2645 of its 2015 and 2016 GLE and GLS SUVs over concerns the front passenger airbag may fail to deploy as a result of faulty software.

According to the German marque, affected vehicles may have incorrect software coding within the seat occupancy control unit, which could result in the airbag system not recognising a passenger in the front seat.

If the condition occurs, the front passenger airbag may not deploy in the event of a collision, posing an increased injury risk.

Affected units were sold from 1 June 2015 through 31 March 2016.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will be contacted by Mercedes-Benz Australia via mail, and will be advised of what the next steps are in obtaining a repair.
