2017 Porsche 911 GTS range revealed:: on sale in Australia now – UPDATE

Update - Porsche's local arm has confirmed timing and pricing for the 911 GTS range. See bottom of article for details

The new 2017 Porsche 911 GTS range has been revealed this week ahead of its Australian launch in the second quarter of this year.

A total of five variants will be offered – in Germany at least – the 911 GTS with rear-wheel drive, 911 GTS with all-wheel drive (both versions will be offered in coupe and convertible forms), along with the 911 Targa 4 GTS with all-wheel drive.

Powered by a new turbocharged 3.0-litre flat six, the GTS develops 331kW and 550Nm (between 2150 and 5000rpm), which is 22kW more than the 911 Carrera S and 15kW more than the outgoing naturally-aspirated GTS.

When equipped with the PDK dual-clutch transmission, the 911 Carrera 4 GTS coupe sprints from 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds. A seven-speed manual transmission is also available.

All models feature a top speed in excess of 300km/h, though the rear-wheel drive GTS coupe manual claims the highest top speed of the bunch at 312km/h.

Depending on model, fuel use is rated between 8.3-9.7L/100km on the combined cycle.

In order to distinguish themselves from the rest of the 911 line-up, all GTS models feature the wider all-wheel drive chassis regardless of layout.

A new front bumper helps to emphasise the sporting character of the 911 GTS, while the low front spoiler and increased rear-spoiler extension reduce lift on the front and rear axles compared to Carrera S variants.

Out the back, the 911 GTS range is distinguished by smoked tail-lights, a silk-gloss black air-intake and black central tailpipes for the standard sports exhaust system.

All-wheel-drive models get a light strip between the tail-lights, while rear-wheel-drive variants get a new black trim strip.

'Sport Design' exterior mirrors, silk-gloss black 20-inch alloy wheels with central locking device and GTS logos complete the look.

The 911 Targa 4 GTS also gets a distinctive black Targa bar for the first time.

Inside, the GTS gets the central stopwatch on the dashboard as part of the standard Sports Chrono package, four-way electrically-adjustable 'Sports seats Plus' at the front with Alcantara trim and GTS logos on the headrests, brushed black anodised aluminium trim on the instrument cluster, along with extended Alcantara trim on the steering wheel, centre console and arm rests.

Also new for the 2017 911 GTS range is an updated Porsche Track Precision app which features automatic recording, detailed display and analysis of driving data through a compatible smartphone.

The 911 GTS models are available to order now in Australia, starting at $279,000 plus on-road costs for the Carrera GTS coupe.
