2008-09 Kia Sportage recalled for wiring fix
Kia Motors Australia has issued a recall notice on 2008-09 KM Series Kia Sportage, citing an electrical wiring fault.
Kia revealed the wiring harness connector pins in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) assembly may corrode due to improper sealing of the HECU’s wiring harness connector.
An electrical short circuit may occur if moisture contaminated with road salt reaches the HECU's circuit board. The ESC warning light may also illuminate.
Kia's recall notice added that an electrical short circuit could result in an engine compartment fire in affected vehicles.
Around 531 vehicles are believed to be affected. Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Kia via mail. Alternatively, owners are also encouraged to contact their local dealer to arrange an inspection.
