First Maserati Levante already in Australia: Local distributor confirms 200 orders

Don’t be surprised if you spot a 2017 Maserati Levante SUV on local roads this week, ahead of its scheduled on-sale early next year.

A Maserati Australia spokesperson confirmed that some customers have air-freighted their Levante luxury SUVs to Australia ahead of the major shipment due locally early next year.

Maserati Australia also confirmed it had taken orders for over 200 of the Italian manufacturer’s first foray into the lucrative luxury SUV segment.

Maserati Australia is targeting a total 1000 cars sold across its range in 2017 in Australia and New Zealand in a 90/10 percent split. The importer expects the bulk of those sales to be made up of Levante and its flagship Quattroporte luxury sedan.

“Levante is going to take the majority of sales and that is clearly a comment as much on the growth of the SUV market as anything,” said Edward Rowe, spokesperson for Maserati Australia. “Quattroporte will remain the flagship of the brand.”

He added Maserati Australia expected sales of Ghibli to drop as current customers opt instead for the all-new Levante SUV.

“We have over 200 orders for Levante and the first cars will arrive in December, not least because a couple of customers are so keen to have their cars they are air-freighting them in, but the majority of cars will be here in January,” said Rowe.

Maserati, both internationally and locally, is pinning its hopes on the success of the Levante, which will enter the Australian market at $139,990 (plus on-roads). And if you’re eagle-eyed, you might spot one on our roads this week.
