According to the Japanese marque, the parking brake in affected vehicles may not automatically apply in certain situations - like when the driver's seat belt is unfastened - due to improper programming - which could cause the vehicle to roll unexpectedly, posing an accident hazard.
The brake hold is designed to deactivate, warn the driver and apply the parking brake in conditions such as when the driver undoes their seat belt.
Lexus says that no cases of the issue have been reported in Australia.
Owners of the affected units will be contacted directly by Lexus Australia, and are advised to make an appointment with their local dealer to have the electronic skid control unit reprogrammed.
The repairs should take around an hour to complete and will be free of charge.
