2017 Suzuki Ignis: Initial Australian pricing revealed in online competition

Initial pricing for the 2017 Suzuki Ignis has been revealed in the terms and conditions of a competition designed to help promote the new model.

Suzuki is currently holding an online competition where entrants can win an Ignis specified to their liking, which, according to the terms and conditions, is valued $21,750 including on-road costs.

The prize includes an Ignis equipped with an automatic transmission ($20,000) with metallic/two-tone paint ($1000) and accessories ($750).

In the terms and conditions, the company states that the pricing includes on-road costs, meaning the automatic Ignis should be priced around $20,000 drive-away.

While final pricing is still to be officially confirmed, this indicates the Suzuki Ignis with an automatic transmission will start around $18,000 plus on-road costs, and if a manual transmission is offered, that figure would likely be even lower.

The competition's car configurator shows five colours; Flame Orange, Fervent Red, Neon Blue, Pure White and Mineral Grey, with each colour having its own customisation options ranging from contrasting roof colours (Fervent Red and Pure White) to contrasting mirror caps.

Your choice of mirror colour also determines the colour of the contrasting plate on the alloy wheels.

Inside, entrants can choose blue, grey, orange or red as a highlight colour, which adorns the lower centre console, door trim and air vents.

Interestingly, entrants are also required to choose Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as their 'entertainment', which raises the question over whether buyers will need to choose which platform they want in their infotainment system. However, the follow-up email details the infotainment system which offers satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It's still unknown what will power the tiny SUV when it arrives Down Under in the first quarter of next year, though a 1.2-litre 'Dualjet' four-cylinder powers overseas models - developing 66kW of power and 120Nm of torque - sending drive to either the front or all four wheels.

There is also a mild-hybrid version of this drivetrain, which the company calls 'Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS), which adds an integrated starter generator with motor function and a lithium-ion battery which assists the engine and is claimed to significantly improve mileage and offer a more comfortable ride - likely in the form of silent inner-city commuting.

Another powerplant that is a possibility for the Australian-market Ignis is the 1.0-litre 'Boosterjet' turbocharged three-cylinder petrol that is fitted to higher-spec versions of the Baleno hatch, which produces 82kW of power and 160Nm of torque.

Other features that are offered in overseas markets include the dual camera-based safety system, which can measure the distance and shape of objects ahead - including vehicles, pedestrians and lane markings.

The system allows for forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning and weaving alert.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for more details on the Suzuki Ignis in the lead-up to its Australian launch in the first quarter of 2017.
