2017 Land Rover Discovery pricing revealed: UPDATE – pricing starts from $65,960

Pricing for the 2017 Land Rover Discovery range has been revealed, and the British brand will hit out hard with its new off-roader starting from just $65,960 plus on-road costs based on prices seen by CarAdvice.

Update: An earlier version of this story stated different pricing to that seen herein. This has since been clarified by Land Rover Australia.

According to the information seen by CarAdvice, the new 2017 Land Rover Discovery range will be extensive - there will be 13 different versions of the new Discovery available from launch, including the flagship First Edition model that will top the range at $132,160.

There will be three different engines on offer, all with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

The entry-level drivetrain is the TD4, with its 2.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder producing 132kW of power at 4000rpm and 430Nm of torque at 1750rpm. That engine uses a claimed average of just 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres, and Land Rover claims its 0-100km/h time is 10.5 seconds.

The mid-level engine is the SD4, a twin-turbo diesel 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 177kW of power and 500Nm of torque (from 1500-2500rpm). Its claimed fuel use is 6.4L/100km, and its 0-100km/h claim is 8.3sec.

The high-spec engine is the TD6, a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel unit pumping out 190kW at 4000rpm and 600Nm (from 1750-2250rpm), and the brochure states it will use a claimed 7.2L/100km. Land Rover says this version can sprint from 0-100km/h in 8.1 seconds.

The range will be segmented across four main variants - the entry-level S, the mid-range SE, then the HSE and the HSE Luxury will fly the flag for the range once the limited number of First Edition models are sold.

Specification highlights include 19-inch wheels for the S and SE versions, while HSE/HSE Luxury models come with 20-inch rims and the First Edition has 21s.

According to the data we've seen, every model in the Discovery range will be offered as a five-seater, with the option of seven seats across all models except the First Edition. The cost of the rear-row seating is high, at $3400, but in case you missed it, Land Rover made quite a deal over its new electric seating system, which can be operated by smartphone - it looks like it will be an option, at $1140.

For those buyers with children, there are ISOFIX child-seat anchor points in the second and third rows (if so optioned), and buyers can also choose seat heating in all three rows if they want ($2490 for all three rows; $1660 for first and second rows; $830 for just the fronts). The HSE Luxury model has heated and cooled front seats as standard, while the First Edition has first and second-row heated/cooled seats with Windsor leather trim.

All models come with the brand's InControl media screen, measuring 8.0 inches in the S and SE while the HSE, HSE Luxury and First Edition have the 10.0-inch screen. The S gets a six-speaker stereo, the SE has 10 speakers, the HSE gets a 10-speaker Meridian system and the top two models have 14-speaker Meridian systems. No models come with digital radio as standard.

The base model misses out on navigation (it's optional at $1610), while the HSE/HSE Luxury/First Edition versions have Navigation Pro with off-road maps and a 10-gigabyte media storage system.

All models come with decent safety kit: autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and a rear-view camera with rear parking sensors are all standard from the base model up, while SE models add front parking sensors, and the HSE and First Edition models get a surround-view camera. The First Edition model has semi-automated parking, too.

All models come with the new single-piece tailgate that includes a drop-down table section mounted in the boot, and the boot-lid is manually operated on the S and SE models, electric on the HSE and has gesture control on the HSE Luxury and First Edition variants.

Stay tuned for full specification details on the 2017 Land Rover Discovery closer to the launch of the new model, which is due in showrooms from about July 2017.
