BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition confirmed for Australia:: 10 units heading Down Under

The motorsport-themed BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition has been confirmed for the Australian market this week, with only 10 of the 200 global units allocated to our market.

Essentially another version of the limited-edition M4 GTS launched earlier this year, the M4 DTM is even more exclusive, and celebrates the company's 2016 drivers' championship win in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM).

Like the M4 GTS, the M4 DTM is powered by an uprated version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six that powers 'lesser' M4 models, developing a meaty 368kW of power and 600Nm of torque – 51kW and 50Nm more than the standard variant.

Also featuring in the DTM is the water-injected cooling system, which sprays water mist to lower inlet temperatures, in turn allowing for higher boost pressure and more aggressive ignition timing – raising power and torque figures as a result.

Fitted exclusively with a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission, the M4 DTM sprints from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, on its way to a limited top speed of 305km/h.

Meanwhile, fuel consumption is rated at 8.5L/100km on the combined cycle.

Differing from the M4 GTS, the M4 DTM is finished in a paint scheme that is reminiscent of the company's DTM race car, with M striping along the sides and the carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof.

The M4 DTM also features CFRP components in the front splitter, mirror caps, side skirts, rear diffuser and boot-lid spoiler. Like the GTS, the M4 DTM also has a bonnet made out of CFRP.

Filling the arches are 19-inch front and 20-inch rear '666 M' star-spoke alloy wheels, finished in Orbit Grey matte paint, wrapped in 265/35/19 front and 285/30/20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

Another feature carried over from the M4 GTS is the titanium quad-exhaust system, which helps to save weight but also adds a more "raucous" soundtrack.

Inside, the rear seats have been removed and in their place is a roll-cage, with two thin-shelled M bucket seats trimmed in Alcantara and Merino leather up front.

Almost the entire interior is finished with Alcantara, even the steering wheel. Championship-winning driver Marco Wittman has also signed a commemorative plaque that comes with every M4 DTM.

Other features include adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam and OLED tail-lights – also borrowed from the M4 GTS.

The BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition is priced from $295,000 plus on-road costs, with only 10 units allocated to Australia.
