Smart Gets Brabus Treatment

Perhaps most famous in recent times for their Mercedes-Benz Brabus SV12 S Biturbo Roadster which is the world's most powerful convertible at 567kW it is surprising to see their endless search for performance has been applied to Mercedes-Benz's subsidiary company, Smart.

Normally associated with monstrous force-fed V12's, squeezing every ounce of power from the three-cylinder turbo engines of the smart fortwo BRABUS and the smart fortwo BRABUS Xclusive was certainly a feat they were not accustomed to - but the result is certainly impressive.

Brabus have managed to produce 72kW and 140Nm from three-cylinder engine which is a 30 percent increase over the standard smart fortwo, all in a car which weighs only 780 kilograms. On top of that - despite the power increase - these special edition smart's can still boast fuel consumption of just 5.2 litres per 100 kilometres.

The pint sized powerhouse sprints from zero to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 155 km/h.

The smart fortwo BRABUS Xclusive lives up to its name with additional unique equipment details such as H7 projection headlamps with titanium coloured surrounds, a front spoiler with enlarged air inlets, striking side skirts and a special rear apron. All body styling parts are matched to the car's exterior colour. The heated seats are upholstered with fine leather and feature head/thorax side airbags as standard. The leather-effect instrument panel boasts distinctive aluminium-look trim components.

The all-new smart fortwo is scheduled to make its Australian debut in the first quarter of next year.
