2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe teased ahead of debut this week

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe has been revealed, at least in part, in a teaser video ahead of its official debut on December 14 (European time).

Shown in the above video, along with earlier spy photos, the new E-Class coupe looks set to feature all of the same styling cues already seen on the C-Class and S-Class coupes, including lozenge-shape headlights, thin tail-lights, and a familiar side profile.

While the outgoing E-Class coupe and convertible shared styling cues with its sedan and wagon contemporaries, under the skin they actually shared a platform with the W204 C-Class.

Both this week's new coupe and the convertible, coming later, will be fully fledged members of the latest E-Class family. As such, they're set to spawn full-fat AMG E63 models.

The latest E63 sedan was revealed in October, and features an updated version of AMG's 4.0-litre V8 with two twin-scroll turbos.

In standard trim the engine develops 420kW of power and 750Nm of torque, and is capable of hurling the E63 sedan from 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds.

For the E63 S model, the V8 boasts 450kW of power and 850Nm of torque, which means that the sedan is good for a 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds, and a top speed of 300km/h with the optional Driver's Pack.

A report in Autocar last week predicted that the new coupe will also debut a new AMG E50 variant powered by the company's new 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine, and boasting 300kW/500Nm to its name.

Australia

The new E-Class coupe will possibly go on sale in Europe and USA during the first or second quarter of 2017, so expect an Australia debut during the second half of 2017.
