Autocar reports that the AMG E50, which will likely sit below a hero E63 variant, will be one of the German marque's first models to debut its new M256 in-line six-cylinder petrol engine.
The article claims the E50 will see the 3.0-litre unit boosted by an electric turbocharger, with outputs of around 402bhp (300kW) and 500Nm.

An integrated starter generator and electric auxiliary compressor help to boost performance when needed.
Autocar also says that the E-Class coupe will be the first model to offer the option of swapping out the rotary controller that has become a central component in the Comand infotainment system, replacing it with a touchpad. Despite this claim, a recently-spied prototype was fitted with the standard controller.
The E-Class coupe is expected to make its public debut at the 2017 Geneva motor show next March.

Speaking to CarAdvice, Jerry Stamoulis, manager of public relations and communications at Mercedes-Benz Australia, said the company's local arm has no information regarding an AMG E50 coupe at this stage.
