eRuf Stormster a plug-in Porsche Cayenne
German tuning company Ruf Automobile will begin production of the eRuf Stormster – an all-electric customised version of the Porsche Cayenne – within a year.
The big SUV is Ruf’s third attempt at converting a pristine Porsche into a plug-in after earlier iterations of an electric 911 ‘Greenster’.
The task was made much easier because of the Cayenne’s size and available space for battery cells, and the finished product is a far more practical and feasible prospect.
The Stormster shares the Greenster’s 270kW Siemens electric motor which is powered by Li-Tec lithium-ion batteries.
Performance figures are humble compared to the standard internal combustion Cayenne – 0-100km/h in close to 10 seconds and a top speed of 150km/h – but compared to other electric vehicles it looks more impressive, with a range of 200km between charges.
Ruf plans to build the Stormster with the normal Cayenne body as well as the wide-body Stormster Green design, most likely in small numbers out of the tuner’s Bavarian garage
It is currently on show at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.
