Yes, a ‘new’ Honda S2000 was sold in Australia last month

Bizarrely, a Honda S2000 was sold new in November, according to industry statistics VFACTS - eight years after the car was discontinued!

Eyebrows were raised when the latest VFACTS data report showed a solitary Honda S2000 in the November 2016 sales cell, considering the last unit sold before this was way back in November 2008.

We enquired with Honda Australia’s director, Stephen Collins, to make sure it wasn't a data entry error. He told us that a NSW dealer had indeed sold one that had been kept aside as a showroom vehicle.

Car dealerships often keep classic iconic vehicles on their lots for various reasons, and this was one of those. However, it seems that a buyer interested in scooping a classic Honda struck at the right time, convincing the unnamed dealer to sell.

It’s unclear what this person paid (though we’re enquiring) but the fact that the almost decade-old S2000 sale counted in VFACTS for November 2016 means it was un-delivered up to this point, because you can’t legally sell a VIN twice.

In 2008, the MY07-plated 176kW (at a screaming 8300rpm) and 208Nm 2.0-litre atmo S2000 convertible sold for $73,590 plus on-road costs.

Who says Honda Australia isn’t selling any sporty cars? Alas, as far as we know, there are no other S2000s in stock, which means you’ll have to keep perusing the classifieds.
