2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia:: Australian line-up confirmed ahead of February launch

UPDATE: Australian pricing for the Giulia Quadrifoglio has now been revealed. Find out more here.

Initial specifications for the Australia-bound 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia have been announced this week ahead of the all-new sedan's local launch in February.

Alfa Romeo's competitor to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series will be offered in four trim levels, with four different powertrains and the highest adult occupant protection score ever achieved in Euro NCAP crash testing history.

The four-tier line-up will consist of the Giulia, Giulia Super, Giulia Veloce and the range-topping Giulia Quadrifoglio - which will serve as a new competitor for the Mercedes-AMG C63 and BMW M3.

Entry-level Giulia models will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 147kW of power and 330Nm of torque.

The 0-100km/h sprint is listed at 6.6 seconds, while fuel consumption is rated at 6.0L/100km on the combined cycle.

Standard on the base variant is leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, keyless start, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, automatic wipers, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

Other features include selectable driving modes, a 3.5-inch TFT driver's information display, UConnect 6.5-inch infotainment system with DAB digital radio and bluetooth, along with an eight-speaker sound system.

Also included across the range are a suite of safety features such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning.

Stepping up to the Giulia Super gives you the choice of two engines; the same 147kW/330Nm 2.0-litre petrol offered in the Giulia or a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel unit that produces 132kW of power and 450Nm of torque - which sprints from 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds and sips fuel at a rate of 4.2L/100km.

The 'Super' specification also sees the addition of higher-grade leather that extends to the dash and doors, an eight-way power driver's seat, adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, and blind spot monitoring.

Next up in the range is the sporty Giulia Veloce, which is powered by an uprated version of the 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit, producing 206kW of power and 400Nm of torque.

The 0-100km/h run takes 5.8 seconds while fuel use is rated at 6.1L/100km on the combined cycle.

Additional equipment included in the Veloce grade are adaptive suspension, a limited-slip rear differential, 19-inch Veloce alloy wheels and performance brakes with red-painted calipers.

Inside, the sporty Giulia variant gets aluminium trim inserts and pedals, along with leather-trimmed sports seats, steering wheel, and a premium sound system.

Sitting atop the range is the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which holds the production sedan lap record at the Nurburgring race track.

Under the bonnet is a Ferrari-developed 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 375kW of power and 600Nm of torque.

Sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is plenty quick, topping out at 305km/h. An eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters sends drive to the rear wheels.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio's engine also features cylinder-deactivation technology, allowing the super sedan to achieve a combined fuel consumption figure of 8.2L/100km.

Standard on the top-shelf Alfa Romeo sedan are 19-inch forged alloy wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, automatic high beam, aluminium and carbon-fibre trim highlights, leather and Alcantara sports seats with contrasting stitching, a 14-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, and a 8.8-inch infotainment system.

Pricing is still to be confirmed, stay tuned to CarAdvice for an update in the lead-up to the Giulia's February launch.
