Aston Martin AM-RB 001 hypercar already sold out – report

Auto Express reports that Aston Martin has announced all 150 road-going versions of the upcoming hypercar have been accounted for, despite the rumoured price tag sitting around the $3 million mark.

In addition to the production run of road-going versions, an even more exclusive run of 25 track-only versions are on the way - likely to have extra aero parts and a stripped out interior, and rumoured to be as fast around a track as a Formula One race car.

Specifications are still to be confirmed, though a naturally-aspirated V12 will live in the engine bay.

In August we reported that Red Bull's careers website was advertising positions for AM-RB 001 engineers, in particular those with experience in hybrid systems, semi-active suspension and composite materials - suggesting a hybrid drivetrain, adaptive suspension and lightweight composite materials will feature.

Outputs are rumoured to be between 900 and 1000hp (671kW-746kW), with the power-to-weight ratio of 1:1 indicating the road-going racer will weigh around 900-1000kg.

Numerous reports suggest the AM-RB 001 will sprint from 0-100km/h in just over two seconds, on its way to a top speed exceeding 200mph (322km/h).

Speaking to Auto Express, Aston Martin's CEO, Andy Palmer, said: “This is a no-excuses halo car, the most luxurious car in its class, but also the quickest and the fastest".

"This car will be able to lap the Silverstone circuit as quick as or quicker than an F1 or LMP1 car. But it’s a race car that’s capable of going on the road."

First deliveries are scheduled for 2018.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-AMG is also working on a F1-inspired hypercar, powered by a version of the hybrid drivetrain used in Lewis Hamilton's W07 Formula One race car - a 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 paired with an electric drive and ERS system.

Last month the company's chairman, Tobias Moers, told industry journal Automotive News that the production run for the German hypercar was almost entirely accounted for ahead of its 2018 release date.
