Audi Sport GmbH launches to continue quattro division’s good work

Audi's 33-year-old quattro performance arm has now officially re-branded as Audi Sport, cementing changes that have in fact been in place for sometime now.

Already being marketed in Australia for more than a year, the Audi Sport brand will stand for the company's growing range of RS-badged performance models in the same way that M and AMG do their thing within the BMW and Mercedes-Benz lines.

Along with the re-branding, Audi Sport GmbH ('GmbH' being the abbreviated German term for a limited liability company) has confirmed it will launch eight new models in the coming 18 months.

Details of those new models are still to be revealed, although we can undoubtedly expect a new-generation RS4 to be among them.

The company, which employs around 1200 people directly, also expects to almost double the number of Audi Sport specialist dealerships by the end of next year - growing from 370 now to around 600.

Motorsport also remains a key part of the Audi Sport arm's mandata, ranging from customer support to DTM, GT racing, the TCR category and, recently, the new Formula E series. Audi confirmed in October that it would exit Le Mans and WEC to focus on Formula E.
