2018 Toyota Camry teased ahead of Detroit debut

A first preview for the all-new 2018 Toyota Camry has been handed down this morning, ahead of an unveiling now confirmed for next month's Detroit motor show.

The new Camry, which will be fully imported into Australia when the company's local manufacturing operation winds up next year, promises to introduce a more dynamic and sporting look than the model currently on sale.

Today's teaser, although tightly cropped, offers a first hint of that sporting style with a faux vent extending out of the long LED tail lamp, mimicking - interestingly - the tail light design of the tough and far more upmarket Lexus LC revealed only recently.

The 2018 Camry has been spied testing in recent months, wrapped in only a light layer of camouflage. And, while the finer details remain obscured, it is clear from the profile and thin front-end disguise that this new model will boast a more imposing look.

Reports suggest the new Camry will weigh around 100kg less than the outgoing model, and the engine range is rumoured to include a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol option.

With the Aurion also potentially leaving our market, we could see the return of a V6-powered Camry - although the turbo four might be intended to replace that larger-capacity option.

Watch for more on the new Camry to come in the weeks ahead.

Australia

The new Camry will likely make its local debut at the end of 2017 or early 2018. With the company’s factory in Altona set to shut down by the end of 2017, the new Camry will be the first since the original sedan and hatchback models to be fully imported into Australia.
