2017 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 drops camo

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has been spied during testing again, but this latest prototype gives us a better look at the new high-performance 'Vette.

Although this car is clad head to toe in camouflage war paint, it doesn't feature the extensive car bra fitted to an earlier prototype.

As such, we can see that the ZR1 will have a bonnet with an impressively sized bulge, as well as extra vents. The air intakes on the front bumper are aggressively styled, and there's also a prominent chin spoiler.

It's not clear what engine will reside underneath that bonnet. Some reports indicate that it will be a 6.2-litre supercharged V8, while others hint at a new twin-turbo V8 motor. Whatever the case, expect it to be fast and loud.

While the headline vehicle sports an eye-catching high-rise rear spoiler, at least one of the vehicles in this prototype fleet has a more subdued number attached to its rear end.

This might indicate that the ZR1 will be available as both a standard and a 'plus' model, or that Chevrolet is hard at work on a number of styling and performance options for its flagship sports car.

Rumour has it that the Corvette ZR1 will make its public debut at January's Detroit motor show, and could be the swan song for the current 'C7' generation of the Corvette.

If various leaks and spills are to be believed, the next-generation Corvette will switch to a new mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout.
