Mystery camo SUV revealed:: It’s a Volkswagen Amarok!

Loch Ness, Stonehenge, all forgotten last week, as the sightings of a mystery SUV caused a bit of a stir around the CarAdvice office. But the year’s biggest mystery has been solved!

Our research has revealed that the chunky-looking 4WD forms part of the Volkswagen Amarok V6 marketing campaign.

It seems the footage from the bush was of the filming for a new TV spot, which is a follow up to the successful ‘Naked Ute’ storyline from early in 2016.

We spoke to Volkswagen Australia and, perhaps seeing that the jig was up, they confirmed the camouflaged car's identity.

As proof, the VW team also sent us these photos from their dealer conference in Canberra, where the disguised ute took centre stage.

This isn't over: we expect to have full details on the vehicle in the coming days.

Thanks to everyone who helped us with leads and information - we even had some suggesting it might have been a VW campaign. I think you’re as surprised as us at the outcome!
