2017 BMW 5 Series M Performance accessories revealed – UPDATE

Update - A spokesperson for BMW Australia has told CarAdvice that the M Performance accessory range is not on the cards for Australia for now. See bottom of article for details.

The 2017 BMW 5 Series hasn't officially launched yet but the Bavarian company has wasted no time in creating a line of M Performance accessories for the new-generation luxury mid-sizer.

With an array of accessories available across all 'G30' 5 Series variants, the M Performance range includes performance, cosmetic and trim upgrades.

Highlights include an M Performance silencer for the 530i and 540i petrol models, which also includes circular or trapezoid tailpipes in chrome or carbon-fibre depending on variant.

An 'Active Sound' exhaust system is available for diesel models, which also adds circular or trapezoidal tailpipes finished in chrome or carbon-fibre depending on variant.

The trapezoidal tailpipe trims are also available as a retrofit option for all models.

A 'Power Kit' will be offered on the 530d, which increases power and torque figures by 20kW and 30Nm respectively to 215kW and 615Nm.

Other options available include an M Performance sports brake system, which includes inner vented, perforated brake discs with four-piston fixed-caliper brakes made of aluminium at the front and single-piston floating-caliper brakes at the rear.

20-inch M Performance light alloy wheels are also on offer, in a two-level double-spoke design finished in either Orbit Grey or two-tone. These rims are wrapped in 245/35 R20 rubber at the front and 275/30 R20 tyres at the rear.

Carbon-fibre exterior trims are available for exterior components like the front bumper, mirror caps rear diffuser and rear spoiler.

Inside, buyers of the new 5 Series can opt for an Alcantara M Performance steering wheel with a red central marking at the 12 o'clock position.

The 2017 'G30' BMW 5 Series was revealed a month ago and the first examples will arrive in Australia by mid-2017.

Update: Adam Davis, product communications manager for BMW Australia, told CarAdvice the Bavarian company's local arm currently has no plans to offer the M Performance add-ons when the new-generation 5 Series arrives in showrooms early next year.

"Not at this stage. We will of course have a close look at the offering and see how it works for the local market," he said.
