Porsche 718 Boxster GTS spied testing

A prototype believed to be the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS has been spied testing this week.

Little distinguishes this 718 Boxster prototype from the models currently on sale, though the extension of the front bumper hints that a more aggressive aero kit is in the works.

Also expected from the rumoured 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS twins are a lower and stiffer suspension set up, along with a sports exhaust and special wheels.

It's believed the new-generation GTS will be powered by an uprated version of the 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo from the 718 'S' models, which in its current form produces 257kW of power and 424Nm of torque.

Reports out of Europe speculate the 718 GTS pair will boast a power figure of around 375-380hp (280-283kW).

Both manual and dual-clutch PDK transmissions are expected to be on offer, with the GTS's launch date said to be in the second half of 2017.

The GTS will sit atop the 'standard' 718 Boxster line-up, and likely leave room for the more potent 718 Boxster Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 models that are expected to join the range later on, which should continue to be powered by a naturally-aspirated straight six powerplant.
