Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T debuts in Australia

Ferrari took the covers off its first-ever V8-powered car with four seats in Sydney today – the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T – following its global debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show in September.

The all-new, rear-wheel-drive GT joins its close-knit sibling, the V12-engined, all-wheel-drive GTC4 Lusso, but will sit above the California T in the current Ferrari hierarchy.

Priced from $503,888 plus on-road costs, the GTC4 Lusso T gets the latest evolution of Ferrari’s 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 shared with Ferrari’s 488 GTB, 488 Spider and $409,888 California T.

Producing maximum power of 449kW at 7500 rpm and peak torque of 760Nm between 3000-5250rpm, it can also accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds, while top speed is a claimed 320km/h.

By way of comparison, the California T generates 415kW and 755Nm of torque, enough to catapult it from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds. Top speed is 315km/h.

But in this guise, it also gets rear wheel steering, which is integrated with Side Slip Control for sharper response to steering inputs for increased agility around town. This is the car Ferrari believes will most likely be driven on a day-to-day basis – from school pick-ups to weekly shopping runs, as well as those weekend blasts away.

To that end, low-speed performance has also been enhanced by Ferrari’s proprietary variable Boost Management system, which increases throttle response by eliminating turbo lag.

The GTC4 Lusso T also employs variable torque curves between third and seventh gear, which Ferrari claims provides progressive acceleration through the rev range.

Inside, it’s a superb blend of contemporary electronics and hand-crafted, stitched hide. It features Ferrari’s unique Dual Cockpit architecture, designed to provide exhilaration for both driver and front passenger. Centrepiece to Ferrari’s latest infotainment system is a 10.25-inch HD capacitive touchscreen.

Herbert Appleroth, CEO Ferrari Australasia, is confident the latest addition to the Ferrari stable will conquest buyers from other, more traditional high-end GT brands. He also believes owners of luxury SUVs will also show interest in Ferrari’s latest GT car, given its hatchback-style versatility.

“Buyers for our new GTC4 Lusso T will likely be coming from the GT segment, mainly from British marques like Aston Martin and Bentley, which have tended to dominate that space and are looking to step up to the next level.

“But I think also from the luxury SUV market. Those that want the combination of practicality and driveability, but may have had enough of the SUV space, which is now more crowded than ever”, he added.

The GTC4 Lusso T is on sale now, though Ferrari says if you place an order today, it will be 2018 before you receive delivery.
