Porsche won’t go below Macan and 718 in size or price – report

The Porsche Macan and Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman will apparently form the floor of German sport car brand's range.

Detlev von Platen, Porsche's global sales chief, told Automotive News at the opening of its Los Angeles Experience Center that the brand had "absolutely no intention to go below what we have today".

Von Platen told the industry publication that the marque had nothing to gain by launching cheaper vehicles. The sales chief noted that "it's not about quantity, it's about quality in what we do".

That said, the company will expand its offerings. One already announced model is a production version of the Mission E electric sedan concept.

Beyond that, von Platen would only confirm that Porsche will invest more in the "development of new services around the car".

Until the end of October this year, with 2019 sales, the Macan accounts for almost 49 per cent of all local Porsche volume. It's also well ahead of the brand's second best selling model, the Cayenne, with 1238 units shifted.

On the sports car side of the ledger, the 911 has notched up 402 sales. That's only a bit behind the combined volume (433) of the Boxster (158) and Cayman (275) twins.
