2017 Holden Barina pricing and specs: Updated hatch lands, outgoing model in runout – UPDATE
UPDATE, November 28: The revised Barina range has now gone official, with RRP pricing released today. See bottom of article.
November 22: Initial pricing and specifications have been revealed for the facelifted 2017 Holden Barina range on the company's website, while the outgoing model is now in runout-sales mode.
The updated Barina was revealed in its Holden guise back in September, as part of a larger unveiling that included the new Astra, a preview of the big Acadia SUV, the facelifted Trax and the facelifted (and renamed) Trailblazer SUV.
Those new models will form part of a larger onslaught that will see 24 new models and variants launch by the end of 2020.
On sale this month, the refreshed Barina brings a new face, updated rump and an upgraded interior. Listed on Holden's website with drive-away pricing, the 2017 model kicks off with the LS variant from $18,816 drive-away for the Melbourne postcode, varying slightly for others. (Region-specific pricing is common across the market.)
All Barinas come equipped with the company's updated 7.0-inch MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, along with LED daytime-running lights, six airbags, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, fog lights, cruise control and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Stepping up to the top-spec LT ($22,876 drive-away, Melbourne) adds larger 17-inch alloy wheels, leather steering wheel, 'Sportec' leatherette seat trim, heated front seats, along with keyless entry and start.
Both grades are powered by the same 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 85kW of power at 6000rpm and 155Nm of torque at 4000rpm.
A five-speed manual is standard on the base LS, with a the six-speed auto standard on the LT and optional on the base LS.
The 2017 Barina range also retains its five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Meanwhile, the pre-facelift hatch and sedan range are now in runout, with the 2016 Barina CD hatch currently being offered for $15,990 drive-away.
Currently there are no details of an updated Barina RS, which in pre-facelift guise featured sporty exterior styling enhancements and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 103kW of power and 200Nm of torque.
