2015-16 Kia Optima Si recalled for driveshaft fix:: 42 vehicles affected

Kia has issued a recall for 42 of its 2015 and 2016 model-year Optima Si sedans over concerns the front axle driveshaft could crack.

According to the Korean manufacturer, the affected Optimas may experience a crack, or separation, of the the right front axle driveshaft due to a manufacturing fault.

If the condition occurs, the crack can cause a loud noise, before losing power and even loss of vehicle control. This increases the risk of an accident.

A VIN list for the affected sedans can be viewed here.

The recalled Optima were sold between October 15, 2015 through April 23, 2016.

This recall is part of the wider Optima recall in the US for the issue, which affects over 12,200 vehicles fitted with the 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Kia Australia via mail, and are encouraged to contact their local dealer to have their right front axle driveshaft replaced free of charge.

For more information, customers can contact Kia Australia on 131 KIA (131 542).
