Local pricing and specifications have been announced for the 2017 Toyota 86 range, which sees the Japanese sports car get a small power bump and a new look for a small price increase.

Now starting from $30,790 before on-road costs, the Toyota 86 starts off $800 dearer than previously, though it is still $2000 more affordable than the cheapest version of its Subaru BRZ twin.

First revealed in March, the facelifted 86 gets receives minor revisions at the front and rear – including standard-fit LED headlights with daytime-running lights – along with an upgraded cabin.

The new sports car also sees a small power bump (manual models only) from 147kW/205Nm to 152kW/212Nm thanks to revised intake and exhaust systems, along with modified pistons, a more rigid cylinder block and a differential gear-ratio change. Automatic models retain the 147kW/205Nm tune.

Fuel consumption is rated at 8.4L/100km for manual models and 7.1L/100km for automatic variants respectively on the combined cycle.

Inside, all models feature a new steering wheel, while higher-spec GTS variants get new performance data options for the multifunction display – including power and torque curves, a stopwatch and a G-force monitor.

Other changes include retuned shock absorbers and coil springs, along with a thicker rear stabiliser bar the company says deliver better handling, stability and ride comfort.

For 2017 the Toyota 86 range also includes hill-start assist control as standard, which helps prevent the vehicle from rolling back on steep hills from a standstill.

Entry-level GT variants come equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels with a space-saver spare, a new 'track' mode – which enables the driver to adjust the level of stability and traction control – while the flagship GTS adds larger 17-inch alloys, a 4.2-inch TFT driver's information display, steering wheel controls, rear spoiler and a new 'Grandlux' suede-like trim on the dashboard.
