Lexus imagines a ‘SkyJet’ spaceship for upcoming sci-fi flick Valerian

Not content with doing slightly better than daydreaming about hoverboards, Lexus has turned its attention back to the silver screen.

This latest turn, the 'SkyJet', was designed for the upcoming sci-fi film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, by French writer and director, Luc Besson (The Professional, The Fifth Element, Lucy).

The long white 'jet' looks little like a Lexus through the body, but there's an unmistakable familiarity up the front. Spy that 'spindle' grille, loosely L-shaped LED daytime lights and back-set headlights.

For consistency with the film's style, the concept was designed in partnership with the Valerian film crew, but the Lexus styling team also leaned on the company's own chief engineer, Takeaki Kato, for the benefit of his wisdom. (Although, what experience he has with spaceships is… unclear…)

The SkyJet isn't the first Lexus concept for the screen, either. Film buffs - or at least those of the sci-fi persuasion - will remember the 2054 concept from the Tom Cruise film, Minority Report.

Back to spaceships, though: Bugatti developed its own futuristic flying machine, the 2154 (there's a pattern here…) for the 2013 film Elysium.
