Honda WR-V:: Jacked-up Jazz revealed for South America

The 2017 Honda WR-V has been revealed this week at the Sao Paulo motor show, becoming the smallest model in the Japanese company's SUV line-up.

First teased in a designer sketch last month, the WR-V has been designed and developed in Brazil for the South American market.

Looking at the WR-V, it is essentially a raised and beefed-up version of the Jazz light hatch, featuring a very familiar design, albeit with the obvious extra body cladding, higher ride height, along with unique L-shaped LED daytime-running lights.

Other design features include a flatter bonnet, skid-plate treatments for the front and rear bumpers, roof rails and 16-inch alloy wheels.

When it launches in Brazil next year the WR-V will take on the Hyundai i20 Active - another baby SUV model that isn't sold in Australia.

Honda is yet to reveal what powers its smallest SUV model, though it's likely the 88kW/145Nm 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Jazz will feature.

Australia

When the teaser sketches were released last month, Neil McDonald, public relations manager for Honda Australia, told CarAdvice that there are no plans to bring the WR-V here - despite the growing demand for high-riding SUV models in Australia.

"The Honda WR-V is a South America-only vehicle, specifically designed and engineered for that market," he said.
