2017 Toyota C-HR spied testing in Australia

The 2017 Toyota C-HR has been spied testing in Australia ahead of its local release in early 2017.

Spotted testing in Melbourne, the heavily disguised Toyota C-HR appears to be undergoing final validation and tuning in Australia before it's signed off locally.

Toyota has previously been spotted testing the Prius locally and did extensive testing with Fortuner in Australia prior to its launch.

As revealed in September, Australian C-HR models will be powered by a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing 85kW of power and 185Nm of torque.

The new small SUV will be available with both a six-speed manual and continuously-variable automatic transmissions, in front- or all-wheel drive configuration.

Two variants will launch locally - the Active and the Koba - with the latter named after the car's global chief engineer, Hiroyuki Koba.

Local models will feature a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, two-tiered front seat design, pre-collision warning system with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, auto high beam, along with a rear-view camera.

Stepping up to the Koba adds heated seats, keyless entry and start, privacy glass and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but we expect it to sit at a more premium level than its competitors, like the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Mitsubishi ASX, Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade.
