First confirmed for dealers in late September, the Navara Series 2 introduces a new 'SL' model grade, along with a number of key updates to the suspension package of dual-cab models.
The latest Navara range is unique in its use of a coil-sprung suspension setup (five-link) at the rear of dual-cab models, although other variants retain a conventional leaf design.
The application of a car-like suspension design in the rear was intended to bring new levels of ride comfort to the high-riding ute market and, at least when unladen, the package largely delivers on its promise. Load it up, however, and the back-end drops considerably - a factor that has brought it some amount of criticism.

Nissan says it has listened to customer and dealer feedback in delivering these upgrades, introducing new suspension components and tuning to models equipped with the multi-link design.
Among the updates are new front and rear shock absorbers, new rear coil springs and new rear rebound dampers.
"Navara Series II features a more refined ride and handling, with improved lateral stability as well as enhanced handling when carrying loads," the company said in its release today.
The changes are promised to be the work of "extensive local testing". This is a crucial point, because, before its Australian launch in June last year, the new Navara range had benefited from no significant local suspension tuning.
Away from mechanicals, the 2017 Navara Series II range also sees the introduction of a new tradie- and fleet-focused SL 4x4 dual-cab, slotting in between the workhorse RX and the more up-spec ST model, while the ST-X remains the top-shelf offering.
Beyond the RX grade that it is otherwise based on, the SL gains ST features that include the 140kW/450Nm 2.3-litre YS23DDTT twin-turbo diesel engine, along with its wide-body design, a reversing camera and the NissanConnect phone connectivity system.
The SL 4x4 dual-cab can be had in both six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic form, riding on 16x7-inch steel wheels with 255/70R16 rubber, and also boasts a vinyl floor in the cabin.
Elsewhere in the range, the ST dual-cab picks up satellite navigation, while the RX dual-cab and single-cab grades now have vinyl floors in place of carpet.
And, again claimed to be the rest of customer feedback, rear passengers in all dual-cab grades have lost their fold-out, floor-level cup holders.
On the options front, the RX 4x4 cab-chassis can now be had with an automatic transmission, while the previously standard sunroof on ST-X dual-cab grades is now a $1000 option.
