Alfa Romeo Giulia to gain wagon variant from late 2017 – report

Anonymous sources within Fiat Chrysler (FCA) have told Automotive News Europe that the Giulia wagon is slated to be introduced into the European market from late 2017.

Speaking to the industry publication, Felipe Munoz, a JATO Dynamics' analyst, said that sedans account for 33 per cent of Europe's premium mid-size market, with wagons responsible for around 42 per cent of sales.

Figures from JATO show that for the nine months to the end of September, the Giulia was fifth in the market segment across Europe despite only going on sale in May this year.

So far, the Giulia (5105) trails the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (35,568), BMW 3 Series (24,931), Audi A4 (23,803), and Jaguar XE (8709), but ahead of the Volvo S60 (4981), Lexus IS (2755), and Infiniti Q50 (1635).

Numbers from the market research firm also show that the Giulia managed to nab fourth place in September behind the German trio of the C-Class, 3 Series, and A4.

If this report proves to be true, the Giulia wagon will be the third model to be spun off from the Giorgio rear- and all-wheel drive platform.

Australia

It's not known, at this stage, whether the Giulia wagon will be offered to FCA affiliates outside of Europe.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan goes on sale locally from early 2017. The related Stelvio SUV will be unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show in the middle of November, and will likely enter Australian showrooms from late 2017 or early 2018.
