Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass, Patriot recalled over airbag fault

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has recalled the Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Caliber, along with the Jeep Compass and Patriot over concerns the airbag and seatbelt pretensioners may not deploy in an accident.

The company says the affected models may have a shorting condition in the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) which could cause the loss of airbag and seatbelt pretensioner deployment capability in a collision.

If the fault occurs, the condition poses a significant injury risk to occupants if the vehicle is involved in a crash.

Model years for the recalled FCA models are as follows:

2010 Chrysler Sebring
2010-2012 Dodge Caliber
2010-2014 Jeep Compass
2010-2014 Jeep Patriot

A VIN list for the recalled models can be viewed here (MS Excel file, opens in new tab).

This notice follows the wider global recall which affects over 1.9 million vehicles across the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep line-ups for the fault. Read the story here.

Owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified by FCA Australia and are advised to present their vehicle to their local Chrysler Jeep Dodge service centre where the repairs will take place at no charge.

The dealer will inspect the Occupant Restraint Controller and determine what repair is required, if necessary.
