This isn’t a promotional campaign, just us trying to offer you some interesting suggestions if you’re in the market for some new wheels.

Haggle hard, and happy shopping. If you spot any deals, let us know in the comments.

Hyundai Tucson Active X — from $31,990 drive-away

The Hyundai Tucson is one of our favourite medium SUVs, one that deserves its status as a top seller (behind the Mazda CX-5, but close to the top).

But as you can read in our comparison test, the Active X variant would be almost perfect if only it had either a little more spec, or was a little cheaper.

Thankfully Hyundai is still coming to the table with factory-backed deals on this Active X for $31,990 (auto) drive-away, which is more than $5000 off.

The 2.0-litre front-drive Active X sports Australian-developed suspension that makes the car ride more comfortably than any of its rivals, a spacious and practical cabin, five-star safety, Apple CarPlay, leather seats and 18-inch alloy wheels.

This is in addition to Hyundai’s lifetime capped-price servicing, five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and roadside support.

Honda HR-V VTi — $26,990 drive-away (with extended warranty)

Another crossover we rate highly is the Honda HR-V, which is probably the most practical car in the small SUV class.

Since launch, Honda has been offering sharp campaign pricing that's worth reminding you of. The base VTi variant with CVT auto costs $26,990 drive-away, which is highly competitive.

Honda also sells fewer of these base variants than it'd like (the VTi-S and VTi-L outperform it), so haggle hard.

You get a decent 105kW 1.8-litre engine, Honda's great fold-flat Magic Seats, a seven-inch touchscreen, multi-angle reversing camera and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Honda is also throwing in an extended warranty, covering five-years/140,000km with full roadside assist.

Volkswagen Golf wagon 92TSI Trendline — $29,990 drive-away (with extended warranty)

What if you want lots of practicality, but favour the better dynamics and lower seat of a wagon?

It's no secret that we're admirers of the Volkswagen Golf, and the 92TSI Trendline Golf wagon at $29,990 drive-away is a good price considering the RRP before on-roads is $28,340.

This version gets the 92kW/200Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine matched to a seven-speed DSG auto, a rear-view camera and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Furthermore, if you use Volkswagen Financial Services, the company's captive finance program, you get a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

Isuzu D-Max 4×4 LS-M Crew Cab — $39,990 drive-away

The tough-as-nails D-Max is far from refined, but it’s one of the strongest utes you can buy. If you actually want to work, it’ll do the job without fuss.

The standout deal at the moment is the mid-range LS-M dual cab at $39,990 drive-away, which is a saving before you even haggle of $9000.

This version gets a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, Bluetooth/iPod connectivity and the trusty 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine with five-speed manual gearbox.

Audi A1 Sportback — $29,990 drive-away

An automatic (S tronic) Audi A1 with the base 1.0 TFSI engine normally sells for $28,600 plus on-roads. But Audi Australia will sell you one for $29,900 drive-away, with a free Style Package that adds LED daytime running lights and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Beyond the turbocharged petrol engine, you get audio streaming, MMI radio with 6.5-inch colour display and a multi-function sports steering wheel with paddle shifts.

So you get an Audi with nice wheels for less than 30 grand. If badge cachet is your thing, then here’s your chance.

Renault Kangoo SWB — $21,990 drive-away (with extended warranty)

Got an ABN? You can get a SWB Renault Kangoo petrol with manual gearbox for $21,990 drive-away. That’s a lot of delivery van for the cash.

For this you get a five-year/200,000km warranty (includes two-year extended manufacturer warranty), three cubic metres of cargo space and a 650kg payload.

You also get dual sliding cargo doors, air conditioning, Bluetooth audio streaming and dual airbags. Annual services are also initially capped at $349 a pop.
