2018 Audi S7 spied

The Audi S7 has been spied on and around the Nurburgring in Germany.

This is not the first time that the second-generation A7 has been photographed ahead of its debut that's likely to take place next year.

Unlike the first set of photos, which were rather blurry as they were taken from a long distance away, these latest pictures are in crystal clear high definition.

Up front, the new car features a wide, low and sharped edged version of Audi's single frame grille, and which is clearly inspired by the Prologue concept cars.

Along the sides, the new A7 and S7 sticks with fastback silhouette employed by today's vehicle, but without the current car's slightly droopy rear end.

Look closely at these prototypes and you can just make out separate horizontal shoulder creases above the front and rear wheel arches. Once again, this design element seems to be drawn straight from the Prologue concept cars.

At the rear, this S7 prototype features a pop-up spoiler, LED tail-light units, and four exhaust tips.

Under the skin, the A7 and S7 will employ the Volkswagen Group's MLB component set for front- and all-wheel drive cars with longitudinal engines.

Motivation will likely come from turbocharged petrol and diesel V6 engines, as well as, probably, a Porsche-sourced V8. Down the track, the A7 will also likely be offered with the option of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
