2017 Citroen C3 WRC Concept revealed

The wraps have been taken off the 2017 Citroen C3 WRC Concept ahead of the brand's return to the FIA World Rally Championship next year after a year-long sabbatical.

According to Citroen the concept is "very close the finalised car ... without giving everything away about its final form". As such, it previews the company's new rally car, which will make its competitive debut at the Monte Carlo rally in January 2017.

Despite looking a lot like the new C3 that's already in European showrooms, the WRC Concept is 160mm longer and 125mm wider, and measures 4.15m long and 1875mm wide. It also rides on a wheelbase that's 55mm longer than the production car's.

Developed specifically for next year's modified WRC regulations, the new C3 WRC will feature an engine developing around 280kW of power.

It also features powerfully flared wheel arches, a deep front spoiler, a rear diffuser, compact carbon wing mirrors, and a large rear spoiler that almost completely dwarfs the rear windscreen.

Citroen says that the bright yellow trim present on the front fascia, side sills, air inlets, vents, and wing mirrors is a tribute to one of the exterior colours available on the new C3 hatchback.

Sadly the company couldn't find a way to incorporate the production hatch's 'airbumps' into the WRC Concept.
