Volkswagen teases ‘revolutionary’ EV concept ahead of Paris debut
Volkswagen has teased a concept electric vehicle that will debut at the 2016 Paris motor show, which starts at the end of this month.
Last month, Herbert Diess, head of the Volkswagen brand, told Wirtschafts Woche that the company's Paris debutant will be an EV around the same size as the Golf. Given that the car is also said to have the interior room of a Passat, expect it to feature a tall hatch body.
With a fully charged battery the car will reportedly have a range of between 400 to 600 kilometres. Recharging times are said to be as quick as 15 minutes, presumably using a quick charger.
A production version of this concept will be the first vehicle to use the new MEB or modular electric toolkit, and will enter production in either 2018 or 2019.

Volkswagen certainly can't be accused of false modesty when it comes to this concept vehicle, and its production car successor, describing it variously as "a new ambassador to the automotive world" and a "one-of-a-kind concept car [that] signals the Volkswagen brand's entry into a new era: because the vehicle is as revolutionary as the Beetle was seven decades ago before it evolved into the world's best-selling car of the century".
The production version of this concept will be the first fruit from the Volkswagen Group's decision to pivot its green strategy from "Eco Diesel" vehicles to EVs in the wake of the Dieselgate scandal.
