Fiat releases Oz performance specs for Abarth 124 Spider

The renaissance of Fiat’s legendary 124 is edging ever closer with Fiat Chrysler Australia today confirming more performance specs for its 2017 Abarth 124 Spider due to hit Aussie roads in October.

While full specifications and pricing are still to be confirmed, FCA today revealed the Abarth 124 Spider will be powered - as expected - by a 1.4-litre turbocharged MultiAir four-cylinder engine pumping out an impressive 125kW at 5500rpm and 250Nm at 2500rpm.

All that power and torque allied to a positively svelte 1060kg frame will propel the 124 Spider to 100km/h in just 6.8 seconds, according to the manufacturer.

Putting that power to the rear wheels will be either a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic with paddle-shifters.

The Abarth will also feature an exclusive Sport Mode which recalibrates the engine mapping, transmission, electric power steering and dynamic stability control system to offer a more engaging driving experience.

Keeping the wheels on the road is the job of the double-wishbone suspension layout out front with a five-link setup at the rear. The suspension has been tuned by Abarth’s engineers for greater braking and cornering stability.

Dampers are bespoke ‘Abarth by Biltstein’ units, which, together with stiffened anti-roll bars, are designed to provide both dynamism and comfort.

Stopping power comes courtesy of Brembo brakes, featuring monoblock aluminium four-piston front callipers.

The Abarth 124 Spider will be available from Australian dealerships from October 7.
