Foton Tunland with Carryboy Tradesman body units hit the road

The Foton Tunland ute can now be ordered with a full Carryboy Tradesman body unit, potentially making the Chinese light commercial more appealing to those after a cheap workhorse.

Designed specifically to be fitted to the Tunland single and dual-cab chassis variants, the Carryboy body unit combines the accessibility of a drop-side tray with the security and weatherproofing of a canopy.

The fibreglass body features three wide opening full-width doors with two-step rotary locks tied into the Foton Tunland’s standard central locking, and easily opened with gas struts. Inside there is a hard-wearing floor, with the sides carpeted.

The Carryboy includes both an LED high level rear brake light and LED internal lights, along with built-in rear lights with stainless steel protection covers. The heavy duty rear bumper protects the body and there is an option of a rear step.

Topping the Carryboy is a roof-rack, made from steel with all joints welded for added strength and powder-coated. At the rear is the Carryboy roller bar, to speed up and ease loading and unloading from the roof.

The Carryboy body unit also offers an array of shelving and drawers, rack systems, tie down points and even a fold up bench vice if required.

Pricing for the Carryboy Tradesman body depends on specification and full details are available from all Foton dealers, which are present in every state and territory.

The Foton Tunland with Carryboy setup launches a month after a fully-accessorised version appeared, sporting raised front and rear RidePro suspension, alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo AT2 tyres, plus a snorkel, canopy, Warn Winch and tow kit.

Clearly, the Chinse brand’s Australian importer, Ateco Automotive, is trying to nab a greater share of the booming light commercial market, though sales are down 19 per cent to 617 units this year. It has renewed competition from the just-launched Great Wall Steed, too.

The un-accessorised Foton Tunland standard Ute range starts at $22,490 drive-away or $25,990 drive-away for the single cab and $27,990 drive-away for the dual cab.

The Tunland is powered by a Cummins 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with 120kW/360Nm, matched to a five-speed manual gearbox. Underneath is double wishbone and coil spring independent front suspension, and hydraulically power assisted rack-and-pinion steering. Both 4x2 and 4x4 is available.

It’s equipped with only two airbags, but comfort levels include remote central locking, power windows, air-conditioning, a leather-trimmed tilt adjustable steering wheel, Bluetooth audio streaming and MP3 capability.

The Foton Tunland range has a three year/100,000 km warranty and roadside assistance.
