2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta spied in Spain

The ultra-exclusive LaFerrari Aperta hypercar has been spied in Barcelona during promotional filming.

Scheduled for its public debut at the Paris motor show next month, the open-top LaFerrari in the pictures is finished in the company’s Rosso Corsa paint with silver pin stripes - differing to the black example that featured in the model's reveal images.

The pictures - posted on the Ferrari Club Espana Facebook page - also confirm that the new model will be named the ‘LaFerrari Aperta’ as opposed to the ‘LaFerrari Spider’, thanks to the rear licence plate.

Ferrari has used the 'Aperta' name - which means 'open' in Italian - on a handful of convertible models, the most recent being the 458 Speciale Aperta.

70th anniversary badging on the side skirt suggests the convertible hypercar is part of Ferrari’s 70th birthday celebrations - which is next year.

Additionally, this means the LaFerrari Aperta is likely to launch next year.

The LaFerrari Aperta is largely identical to its coupe twin, with the obvious exception of the roof, or lack of.

Powering the hyper-convertible is the same rear-mounted 588kW/700Nm 6.3-litre V12 mated to a 120kW electric motor as the coupe.

The Formula One-derived HY-KERS hybrid drivetrain produces a combined 708kW of power and 900Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

According to Ferrari, the LaFerrari Aperta has the same performance figures as the coupe, thanks to extensive chassis and aerodynamics modifications to ensure the convertible has the same torsional rigidity, beam stiffness and drag coefficient as its roofed counterpart.

The LaFerrari coupe sprints from 0-100km/h in under three seconds, hit 200km/h from a standstill in under seven seconds, and 300km/h in 15 seconds.

Top speed is rated at over 350km/h, though an exact figure is yet to be released.

While Ferrari hasn’t officially stated how many LaFerrari Apertas will be produced, reports suggest a run of 150 units is likely.

The LaFerrari coupe was limited to 499 units, each costing more than US$1 million ($1.3 million), though an additional 500th vehicle will be built and sold to benefit the victims of the recent Italian earthquake.

It’s believed the LaFerrari Aperta will be limited to just 150 units and priced around the 2 million euros ($2.9 million) mark - one vehicle is claimed to have been sold for around US$6 million ($7.8 million).

Anyone with a spare $3 million wanting to buy a LaFerrari Aperta is out of luck, however, as the entire production run has already been sold out.

The LaFerrari Aperta will make its public debut at the 2016 Paris motor show next month, so stay tuned for our coverage.
