Like the wagon that was captured a few days ago, these latest sedan prototypes no longer features disguising tape over the bonnet, roof, sills, and the lower portion of the rear bumper.
These vehicles are also fitted with production-ready components, giving us a good look at the new 5 Series' headlight and tail-light graphics, and the styling features of the front and rear fascias.
As we've seen in earlier spy photo collections, the styling of the new 5 Series will be a smooth, if conservative, evolution of today's car, both inside and out. For now, there will be no radical Bangle-like reinterpretation of the BMW design ethos.
Under the skin, the latest 5 Series will use the company's new Carbon Core architecture, which made its debut with the 7 Series last year.
Featuring lightweight materials, such as aluminium, high-strength steel and, yes, carbon-fibre, the new 5 Series is expected to shed around 100 kilograms compared to today's car.
The 5 Series' long bonnet will shield a selection of turbocharged engines from the elements. For many markets, this will include four-, six- and eight-cylinder petrol and diesel motors. There will also be a plug-in hybrid variant available down the track.
It's widely expected that the new 5 Series will make its debut at the 2016 Paris motor show, previews for which begin at the end of this month.
