2017 Nissan X-Trail facelift spied in US commercial

The 2017 Nissan X-Trail may have been revealed this week, featuring in an advertisement from the US.

Known in the States as the Nissan Rogue, the updated SUV features in the company’s ‘Heisman House’ campaign, alongside a Maxima, Altima and Titan pick-up.

The facelifted model appears to sport a more pronounced chrome ‘V’ fascia and a deeper grille than the current car, similar to that of the newly facelifted Pathfinder. Additionally, the fog lights of this car are horizontal strips, as opposed to the current round units.

According to the US’s TFLCar, the updated Rogue/X-Trail could also see revisions to the rear, namely the tail-lights, along with the possible introduction of a hybrid powertrain - though there is an X-Trail Hybrid on sale in its home market of Japan.

The current X-Trail was first introduced in 2014, and was a significant departure from its predecessor - adopting a more road-focused car-like approach compared to the previous car’s boxy, rugged design.

In May, Nissan’s European arm announced an update for the closely-related Qashqai that will make its debut sometime in 2017, becoming the first model outside of Japan to feature its new ProPilot driverless technologies.

The new ProPilot suite includes stage one autonomous driving systems, allowing the car to drive itself in a single lane during heavy traffic conditions or on the highway.

Considering the Qashqai and X-Trail follow the same timeline and share the same underpinnings, it’s likely 2017 will see both models refreshed.

Nissan’s Australian arm told CarAdvice it has no details regarding an updated X-Trail, however this American ad suggests an update is on the way - and soon. But, as with the American-market facelift for the Altima sedan, it may be that this new look will be not be offered in Australia.

Stay tuned to CarAdvice for more Nissan X-Trail updates over the coming months.
