2007-16 Mitsubishi Pajero added to Takata airbag recall:: 57,000 vehicles affected

Mitsubishi has issued a recall for 57,128 of  its 2007 to 2016 model-year Pajero SUVs as part of the ongoing Takata airbag recall.

The company reports the driver-side airbag inflator may release metallic fragments from the inflator container when the airbag deploys.

In the event of a collision that requires the airbag to deploy, these metal fragments have the potential to seriously injure, or even kill the occupants of the vehicle.

The Takata airbag scandal has affected around 60 million vehicles globally across a range of manufacturers from Toyota and Honda to Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari.

Affected Pajeros are the ‘NS’, ‘NT’, ‘NW’ and ‘NX’ models, produced between 10 October 2006 to 6 February 2016.

VIN ranges for the recalled vehicles can be viewed here.

Owners of the affected by Mitsubishi Australia via mail as soon as parts become available, and are encouraged to present their Pajero to their local Mitsubishi dealer to have their driver’s airbag inspected and replaced (if necessary) free of charge.

A spokesperson from Mitsubishi said to CarAdvice the company is expecting the parts to become available from October.
