Kicking off at $218,715 before on-road costs, the entry-level SL400 comes in a smidgen over $10,000 below the asking price of the previous car.
Powering the ‘standard’ Mercedes-Benz SL is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine generating 270kW of power and 500Nm of torque, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Over its predecessor, the SL400 gains AMG exterior styling, Comand Online navigation system with Apple CarPlay, LED headlights and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Already standard on the SL400 are selectable driving modes, leather upholstery, 600W 11-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, Airscarf neck-level heaters, heated and ventilated sports seats, keyless entry and start, ambient lighting and a digital TV tuner.
Stepping up to the SL500 adds $60,000 ($278,715) and swaps the twin-turbo V6 for a 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8, with outputs of 335kW and 700Nm, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Despite the price hike over its V6-powered sibling, the SL500 is actually $33,285 cheaper than the car it replaces.
In addition to the equipment featured on the SL400, the SL500 comes standard with nappa leather upholstery, Black Ash high-gloss wood trim, wood/leather steering wheel and power closing doors.
At the top of the range is the Mercedes-AMG SL63, powered by a 430kW/900Nm 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8, kicking off at $368,715 plus on-road costs - $30,285 less than before.
The SL63 is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.
Standard on the flagship variant are AMG 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, AMG sports suspension with Active Body Control, AMG locking rear differential, AMG high-performance brakes and an AMG sports exhaust system.
Also included is ‘Exclusive’ nappa leather upholstery, a Bang and Olufsen BeoSound sound system, AMG IWC clock, AMG active multi-contour seats and a panoramic vario-roof.
On the safety front, all variants come equipped with six airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, driver fatigue monitor, an active bonnet, adaptive LED brake lights and a rear-view camera.

For 2017 the updated range adds the Driver Assistance Plus package as standard, which includes autonomous adaptive cruise control with steering assist, active brake assistance with cross-traffic function, active lane-keeping assistance and active blind-spot assistance.
