The new Porsche Macan flagship variant builds on the already dynamic Macan Turbo, further blurring the lines between sports cars and SUVs.
The Macan Turbo with Performance Package gets an uprated 3.6-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine with 324kW (up 30kW over the regular Turbo) and 600Nm (up 50Nm) between 1500 and 4500rpm. Claimed fuel use figures from 9.4 litres per 100km are up 0.2L/100km.
Befitting the upgrades, the car accelerates from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.4 seconds, four-tenths quicker than the Macan Turbo. Furthermore, in Sport Mode, the 80-100km/h dash now takes only 2.9sec (down 0.2sec)
It’s not just changes under the bonnet that define the Macan Turbo with Performance Package, though.
First, it gets better brakes (the 390mm front discs, with six-piston callipers, are 30mm bigger than on the Turbo). Second, it gets standard air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with a ride height reduction of 25mm, or 10mm lower than a Macan Turbo fitted with optional air and PASM.
The Sport Chrono Package has a Sport Plus mode that sharpens the characteristics of the chassis and drivetrain, which comprises the 3.6 engine, a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a continuously variable all-wheel-drive system.
You can opt for a range of options, such as the Turbo Exterior Package (21-inch wheels in the 911 Turbo design with lateral spokes painted in high-gloss black, and LED main headlights equipped with PDLS Plus), and the Turbo Interior Package (black leather interior with Alcantara elements, colour appliqué in numerous areas and carbon elements such as the door entry guards with the model logo lit up in white).
The Macan Turbo with Performance Package is available for order now in Australia, priced from $143,500 plus on-road costs, with aforementioned local deliveries expected from March 2017. This is $13,500 more expensive than the existing Macan Turbo.
The Macan is easily Porsche Australia's top-selling car this year, with 1442 units sold, up 27 per cent. It represents about half of the German brand's deliveries here.
