Peugeot HYbrid3 Evolution revealed

Peugeot has unveiled its latest three-wheeled concept vehicle featuring hybrid technology likely to find its way into production cars.

The HYbrid3 Evolution, on display at the International Cycle and Motorbike Show in Milan, began life at last year’s Paris Motor Show and has since lost its roof to appear more bike-like.

The “concept scooter”, as Peugeot calls it, has a 30kW 0.3-litre petrol engine driving the rear wheel and a 3kW electric motor in each of the two front wheels.

The start/stop petrol engine, regenerative breaking and lithium-ion battery pack combine to produce an average fuel figure of 1.99-litres/100km and CO2 emission of just 48g/km.

In electric-only mode it can run for up to 10 kilometres at low speeds, while flat-out performance mode 0-100km/h comes in 10 seconds and the top speed is 150km/h.

Peugeot is expected to use similar hybrid technology when it releases its 3008 crossover in 2011.

The 3008 will be powered by a 121kW 2.0-litre diesel at the front and a 27kW electric motor at the rear.

Peugeot says it expects fuel and emissions averages to be approximately 4.1-litres/100km and 109g/km.
