Cadillac Converj timing, specs still up in the air

Reports from the US are saying General Motors will build the plug-in Cadillac Converj, but is yet to decide on a production timeline or specific design elements.

The Converj uses the same electric technology as the Chevrolet Volt, which is capable of travelling around 64 kilometres on plug-in power and is due for production late next year.

It is believed the Converj was the subject of a presentation to GM’s board of directors last week, and was given the green light without a definite production date.

The car was first seen at January’s Detroit Motor Show as a two-door sports coupe with 21-inch wheels at the front, 22s at the rear and adaptive magnetic suspension.

Like the Volt, it was powered by an 111kW electric motor and a 1.4-litre 53kW generator.

GM is still to decide whether the production version of the Converj will use the Volt’s range-extending petrol technology or be a brand new, all-electric performance vehicle.
