Citroen C-Zero EV due for UK launch late 2010

Citroen will release its C-Zero electric vehicle (EV), a car co-developed with Mitsubishi, to the UK market from the end of 2010.

Claiming zero fuel consumption, zero CO2 emissions and zero engine noise, the C-Zero is a 100 per cent electric vehicle charged overnight from any domestic power supply.

Citroen claim its new city car will make urban mobility easier - thanks to its compact dimensions, rapid charge and generous range for day-to-day car journeys.

The C-Zero is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 47kW from 3,000 to 6,000rpm. Maximum torque of 180Nm is available from 0 to 2,000rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a single-speed reduction gear.

The motor draws its power from a latest-generation 330-volt lithium-ion battery pack comprising 88 50Ah cells (for onboard energy of 16kWh), mounted in the centre of the vehicle.  Lithium-ion technology keeps battery weight down compared with conventional technology, while offering equivalent performance.  It is also resistant to partial re-charges, which have no impact on battery longevity.

A full charge takes six hours, while an 80 per cent charge is possible in just 30 minutes (when using an external station with a single-phase current of 125A at 400V).

On a full charge the C-Zero can cover up to 130km (range). Top speed is 130km/h while 0-100km/h acceleration is a leisurely 15.0 seconds.

The four-seat C-Zero rides on a 2550mm wheelbase, is 2480mm long and offers 166 litres of cargo space. It also boasts a 9 metre turning circle.

Standard features include power steering, ABS, traction control, ESC, power windows, six airbags and air conditioning.

Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
